HF Group Frequency (Local Rag Chew Freq)

Postby w4tzx » Thu Aug 01, 2013 2:52 pm

Would anyone in the club and surrounding area be interested in picking a HF frequency to hang out on? Just to talk, test equipment, and have group dicussions.

OK Noel,

Let's get on the repeater and try each band. I thought we could start on 10 meters say 28.350 Give me a shout when you have time. If you can't get me over the radio my number is 270 705 3012

ok Todd,

That sounds good. It maybe closer to the weekend before I get on the HF rig. We started working some OT today and supposed to do it all week. Plus I have a couple yards to mow if it ever dries up any. hi hi But we sure can try it out and see what works.

Sorry - late to the party, but just fashionably. :P Many years ago we had a 10M net called the Catfish Net. John K1XN and Robin really made the big push for it. But when the sunspot cycle was really down, even groundwave didn't carry the day. You might do better on 17M with ground wave, otherwise, you're looking at 75M and finding a hole in that mess. Best area there would be just above 3.60 kHZ.

Let's try on 17m. Might be less QRM.

I am good with 17m. Next to 10m it is my other favorite playground. as a matter of fact I am wasting time there now. I can't play on 75/80m cause my toys aren't big enough. I guess I can't run with the big dogs.

Noel:

All you would need is one of our Field Day wire antennas. If the wire is too long, just drape the ends down in a sort of inverted-U. It works !

Jamie:

I have been looking at one of the antennas that phil N4PWG had at field day. I seems it might be a little shorter than a regular inverted V or U. Just the price of the capacitor is holding me back right now. I might have you come over here someday and check out my yard to see where might be a good place to place a dipole with all the power lines and cable lines.
